i said earlier that i was going to get back into analyzing home floor plans so today i'm going to look at this home that i think is ultra modern and has so much potential.

the front of this house is absolutely grand. there's a planter at the very front and this would make a great place to plant some flowers or maybe some shrubs. this planter is the kind of thing that gives so much potential for landscaping the front of the house. behind this planter there's a front courtyard and i think this is a great thing to have too. the planter could be used to provide some privacy and maybe some shade if some shrubs are planted in the planter. but this front courtyard is also easily accessible through the large doors leading to the greatroom. still at the front of the house but off to the side we have the covered porch and here we find the entry to the house. this entry door leads directly to the greatroom.

this greatroom has truly earned its name! there's clearly lots of room for a dining area as well as lots of room for a relaxing area with some seating and even a large tv. on either side of the great room we have large doors opening to the outside. on one side there's the front courtyard and the planter that were mentioned earlier and on the other side there is another patio area with another planter! this room just makes it so convenient to enjoy the best aspects of indoor living along with everything that outdoor living can provide. if you lived in a house like this you could start the day by relaxing in the front courtyard and maybe even having breakfast there. then you could move to the back patio deck area during the afternoon to do some gardening and then get some more relaxation. then when it starts to get dark you could go inside into the greatroom and watch television before eating a great dinner at a dining room table that's also in the greatroom area.

to prepare a dinner like that you'd need a great kitchen and that's exactly what we find opening into the greatroom. the kitchen is located to the side of the house behind the covered porch and the entry way. the kitchen has so much counter space! included in this space is an area for some bar seating. this would be another great place to eat breakfast maybe if it's raining out and the front courtyard can't be used.

behind the kitchen and the greatroom and beside the back patio area there's a washroom with a sink and a toilet and a tub. behind this there's another room that could be used as a bedroom or maybe even a home office or a study or a library. this is the kind of ground floor room that's great to have because it has so many potential uses. if you need more bedroom space then it could easily be used for that but if the number of bedrooms is not an issue then it's just one more room that's available to use for something great. just outside of this room's door we find a closet and there are stairs leading up to the second level.

the second floor of this house is grand too. at the top of the stairs we find two bedrooms. one bedroom is directly above the room on the lower floor that could be used as a bedroom. between this bedroom and the other bedroom there is a bathroom that looks almost identical in layout to the one on the main floor but this bathroom could be decorated differently so that it doesn't look exactly like the bathroom on the main floor.

i'm going to call the other bedroom on the upper floor the master bedroom because it is larger than the other two and it has some other great amenities. the sliding door is one such amenity but the greatest amenity is clearly the huge deck that's outside the master bedroom. it surrounds it on two sides and i think this deck has so much potential that i'm having trouble considering all of the options! this could clearly be a place for relaxation because there's just so much room for putting out some tables and chairs. there's also room for laying out a blanket or a mat and then sitting or laying on this blanket or mat to get a great tan. i think that there is even enough room up on this deck to have some flower pots and to do some light gardening. since it's on the second level and there's a short wall surrounding it i think it would be a very private deck but it still doesn't prevent the sun and the breeze from coming in and making it a very relaxing place.

this isn't a large house by any means but it's still very modern and because it's so modern it offers many modern amenities like the fantastic greatroom, the back patio, the front courtyard, planters, and the absolutely amazing deck on the upper level that's so practical and just has so much potential. this house is a real winner for sure!

not everybody lives in an area where fireplaces are necessary or useful but if you do then this wood fireplace is one to consider! when i first saw a picture of it the first thing i thought of was a pendulum. a lot of fireplaces are made of brick and are large and rectangular but this one is sleek and has good curves. it's also taller and narrower than a lot of other fireplaces and with the chimney on the top it looks like a pendulum to me. if i walked into a room with a fireplace like that then the first thing i would notice would probably be that fireplace! it just has a shape and an appearance that catches your eye and gets you interested so quickly.

i always like wall decorations that i can customize to meet my own style. a great example of this kind of wall covering are these claddings with indentations in them. inside the indentations you can put stuff like glass tiles to give the wall a customized and unique appearance. one of the pictures even shows something that looks like plants growing inside the indentation!

even if you don't want to put stuff inside the indentations you can just leave them empty. they still make a great pattern that can take a boring old wall and give it unbelievable texture. just look at the last photo in that series and you'll see what i mean. the pattern is stunning and it feels so 3d. this cladding can make plain walls into a work of art!

people who have been to europe or japan know that space is often very valuable and it has to be used very carefully. well this holds true even in other places when people live in small homes or small apartments or even small condominiums. when you're in a situation like that you need furniture that's compact but still usable. a good example of furniture like that is this table that can lift up!

that's a spectacular table in my opinion. it can be a low table if you want but then if you need a higher table you can raise its top so that it's higher. it just offers so much potential! it can be used as a coffee table or a magazine table or a work desk or an eating table. it's hard to get that kind of flexibility and potential out of normal desks or tables.

it has been a long time since i looked at house floor plans so i think i will start doing it again. the first house i decided to look at is this simple 3 bedroom 1 story house. the front of this house features a small porch that would be perfect for sitting on during a summer evening. the front door is located off of this front porch and it leads into the area between the dining room and the family room.

the dining room is at the front of the house and it juts out further than the family room so that it is partially beside the entry porch. back behind the entry and partially connected to the dining room is the family room. i think this is a great layout because it really opens up the front of the house. when you've got a smaller house it's important to keep it open because this is what can make the smaller house feel a lot larger than it is. this kind of a layout is also useful for parties because it lets people get snacks and drinks from the table in the dining room and then they can easily go socialize in the family room. or even if there aren't guests over it's still convenient for the family living in the house. they can eat a big dinner then they can go and watch a movie or some television in the family room.

the kitchen is at the side of the house behind the dining room. it has a two basin sink and a stove and a fridge. i think it has a good layout too where there is lots of counter space. on each side of the sink there are counters which is very convenient because you can put dirty dishes and cutlery on one side and then you can wash them in the sink and finally you can but them in a drying rack on the other side where they can dry and then be put in the cupboards. behind the sink and located between the fridge and the stove there is more counter space. this space would be very useful when preparing meals. you can take food from the fridge and put it on the counter and you can mix the ingredients and prepare the meal here. then if cooking is needed the food can easily be moved to the stove and then back again to the counter when it is done cooking.

another convenient feature of this house is the side door. it's located near the back of the kitchen by the closet that has the washer and the clothes dryer and the water heater. this side door could open to a driveway beside the house. this is convenient because groceries could be brought into the house and almost directly to the kitchen so easily! right beside the closet with the washer and the dryer we find a small linen closet. behind these two closets there is the bathroom. it has a tub and a toilet and a sink with a counter.

toward the back of the house we find the bedrooms. one of the bedrooms is almost in the middle of the one side of the house. one of its walls is shared with the back of the family room and one of the other walls helps form the hallway that leads from the family room back to the bathroom and the other bedrooms. this bedroom in the middle of the house is almost square shaped and it has a closet. the other two bedrooms are located at the very back of the house. both are more rectangular in shape and they also both have closets.

this is not a large house but it is a practical one and for that reason i think it would be a really fine home for a small young family with maybe one or two children. it has a solid layout with all of the rooms that are needed to live comfortably in a small house.
