a combined lamp table is such a great idea

Posted on October 25, 2011 at 22:45:08

we usually think of lamps and tables being separate things but they don't have to be! they can be combined into furniture that embodies the best of both! just look at these combined tables and lamps for a great example. they have a small table with three legs and attached to this table at one end is a taller pole and on the top of this pole there is a light.

i think that furniture like this is a great idea. if you put it next to a chair like in the second picture in the article then you do have a perfect place to put a book or a cup of tea. then while you're reading you can turn on the light and aim it toward your book if you need some extra brightness. since the table is right there you can also sip your tea while reading. it just sounds so convenient and relaxing!

today i learned more about underfloor heating

Posted on October 25, 2011 at 22:21:50

while not everybody lives in an area where heating is necessary i think it's still important to know about the options that are available just in case you ever end up living in an area where the weather does get cold during part of the year and then it does become so important to have a good heating system in place.

most people will think of furnaces and fireplaces and wood burning stoves as ways of heating a house but today i was reading more about underfloor heating and i really like the idea! i've been in homes with underfloor heating a few times before and it is a luxurious way of heating a house. if i ever build a house where it gets cold then i'm going to think about using underfloor heating maybe even if only just in important rooms.

these concrete hexagon coasters look so industrial

Posted on October 25, 2011 at 22:04:32

i'm always on the lookout for unique kitchen and dining room accessories and i think that these concrete hexagon coasters are unique! they have a great pattern and they look like they would be very durable too. the concrete doesn't just give it strength but it also makes me see it as very industrial and meant for serious business.

what a graceful lighting fixture

Posted on October 20, 2011 at 22:29:59

indoor lighting is always one of my favorite topics. some lighting fixtures have rough edges and builds but others are very graceful and sleek. a good example of a graceful lighting fixture is this black hanging lamp that looks like a top. while it's gentle it isn't just gentle. it also has a strong and robust look to it.

i think that the top part is the gentle part. it has gradual curves down to the rim edge near the bottom where the curved part stops and then starts curving back in but while still going downwards. it's this peak of the curve that i think is what gives this lamp its gentle strength. the peak is prominent and not afraid to show itself but it is balanced gently by the curves of the upper and lower segments.

the part at the top where the lamp and the cable meet has the look of wood. this contrasts with the rest of the lamp but it is not a harsh contrast! not at all! it's a gentle wood that complements the bottom part of the lamp in a gentle yet stern manner. all of these pieces coming together really make for a great lamp that conveys many different feelings.

a good looking planter can add so much to a room

Posted on October 18, 2011 at 02:25:46

going green has been a really big deal lately for a lot of people. but if you live in a city or even the suburbs you can't always be as green as you might want to be. in a city there are some serious space restraints making it difficult to have a lawn or a garden. sometimes you can't even have a lawn of your own if you live in a condominium or an apartment!

well fear not! one good way to make your room look greener and so much more natural is to get some indoor plants and hang them in plant hangers. one plant hanger that i particularly like is this ball like planter. i really like its unique design. its almost like a sphere but you can see through it. it's practical and it's attractive and it looks like the kind of planter that could really help brighten up a room.
